Lillian Axe Live 2002 Aventura Full

As a rule, the mid- to late '90s were a rough time for '80s-style heavy metal/hard rock bands like Lillian Axe. Alternative metal had become metal's dominant direction, and a lot of '80s metal and hard rock artists were relegated to 'where are they now' segments on VH1. Nonetheless, there's still an audience for '80s-style headbangers.

After breaking up in 1995 and reuniting in 1999, Lillian Axe still had a small fan base - and that fan base is who the New Orleans metallers cater to on Live 2002. Recorded at a Houston, TX, club on May 4, 2002, this two-CD set is state-of-the-art Lillian Axe - forceful, loud, and aggressive, yet melodic and intricate. Lillian Axe was always one of the more tuneful bands in the metal field, and enjoyable performances of late-'80s favorites like 'Ghosts of Winter,' 'All's Fair in Love + War,' 'Nobody Knows,' and 'Misery Loves Company' demonstrate that the band's well-crafted songs have held up nicely over the years. Without question, Live 2002 is a celebration of Lillian Axe's late-'80s/early-'90s heyday - the double CD doesn't pretend to be forward-thinking. Few surprises occur, and that's probably just as well because, quite honestly, most of the Texans who attended this Houston show no doubt expected to hear their old favorites.

Headbangers who don't own any Lillian Axe CDs would be better off starting out with IRS' best-of collection Out of the Darkness, Into the Light (1987-89) - that's the place to go if you need a dose of Introductory Lillian Axe 101. But the band's die-hard fans will find that Live 2002, although far from groundbreaking, is solid and respectable. Alex Henderson.

For being away for some time, Lillian Axe still kicks some ass. I wasn't expecting a very good recording when I bought this CD, but was pretty amazed how good it actually was. Good or bad, I usually buy all things related to Lillian Axe. I feel they were one of the most underrated bands out of the 80's.

Maybe even a little ahead of their time in a way. The musicianship, song writing, chemestry.all top notch. The song selection for this release represents them well. Perfect 10!From: GarDate: June 25, 2003 at 16:26Every Lillian Axe cd is worth getting.

This is no exception. They put together a fantastic setlist that includes tracks from ALL of their studio releases. Sure, there's a few songs I would have liked to see on this('Moonlight in Your Blood' in particular). But there are no complaints whatsoever about the songs that ARE on this.

I think I only paid $13.99 for this brand new, so even the price is great! From: DEDate: July 21, 2003 at 10:00Great CD! And indeed these guys are so underrated and underappreciated. Look forward to their next CD.hope that it is soon!!From: Johnny CashDate: July 28, 2003 at 23:05This album and the MP3's 4 'All's fair in love + war' and 'Dream of a lifetime' got me interested in the Axe. Great production, fine guitar work and polished versions of most of the Axe's best songs.

The only song that is a let down is 'All's fair in love + war' and this is only due to lack of gang vocals. Misery loves company, True believer, Mercy, Waiting in the dark and Ghost of winter sound awesome. From: KipDate: August 26, 2004 at 12:30AWESOME! Steve Blaze puts on his shredding shoes and spices up the already awesome solos.

Taylor's voice sounds a little weaker live than it does in the studio. The production is a solid A for a live show. The track list is another solid A or A- and represents all of thier 'hits' (These guys were never popular or heavily played - and thats a shame) Almost any die hard fan will have a favorite track or two not included here. But what's great about Lillian Axe is ALL of their songs are good. From: ALEXX GLAMDate: November 23, 2004 at 10:17GREAT LIVE VERSIONS OF ALL THE CLASSICS OF THIS FINE BAND BUY ITFrom: wyrmDate: February 14, 2005 at 8:51Did you know you can find ALL Lillian Axe CDs in mp3 format on the OFFICIAL LILLIAN AXE SITE:? Enjoy! From: speed demonDate: March 28, 2006 at 14:14As Gar has already said above this set covers all the bands albums to this point, and I must say they cover it well.

Something for everyone here. You have the early stuff and their later recordings. They combine both very well in this 2 disc set. Both disc's are very enjoyable.I own all of the Lillian Axe library and could not imagine a collection of this type of music without all of it in it. A MUST have for your collection! Just a GREAT live cd!From: gooupDate: March 18, 2008 at 14:47As good a live CD as you can possibly hope for. Ron sings with passion, and isn't out of breath or merely barking out lyrics.

He SINGS these songs with all his heart. Steve is unbelievably great on this album. The songs are all true to form and don't deviate from what made them the classics they are. Super album! From: Doghouse ReillyDate: August 3, 2008 at 14:34Well, if you're a Lillian Axe fan, you'll be well pleased with this.

The song selection is excellent, as every album is well-represented. The production is pretty good as well, especially for a seemingly low-budget release. And the packaging is pretty nice too, tons of pictures. That alone makes it worth an 80 at least. Me, personally, I can take or leave the band.

The guitarwork is blistering throughout, but somehow, Ron Taylor's live vocals are a little on the wimpy side, and you can't hear the harmonies too well. Too many of the songs just don't distinguish themselves for me. It's a shame, because it's such a cool set, I really want to like it more than I do. Interesting bit of trivia: they broke a drumhead during the first song, and so played it again at the end of the set to get it on tape. From: edwithmjDate: February 1, 2012 at 13:03I agree that Taylor's vocals sound a little less powerful than on the studio releases but it's still there and he pulls the songs off brilliantly. Every album is represented in this so fans of the band who can't see them live (even more so since Taylor's not in it anymore ) would be wise to get this.
